Our story

Built in Palmer.
Made for Alaska.

Matanuska Brewing began with a stubborn commitment to quality, hard work, and adventure. Since 2017, its three-acre Palmer campus has grown into a production brewery and hometown taproom with a broad Alaska-made beverage program.

1936

Before beer

Matanuska Maid begins.

The Matanuska Maid Dairy started in 1936 and grew into a familiar Alaska dairy operation on the Palmer site.

1950s

Working agriculture

Grain by rail.

The grain elevator and silo still standing on the property date to the 1950s. The site moved barley from Delta Junction rail cars to trucks for local dairy farmers.

2007

End of an era

The dairy closes.

Matanuska Maid closed in 2007 after 71 years, leaving the Palmer property quiet for nearly a decade.

2016

A new chapter

The brewery takes over.

Matanuska Brewing purchased the facility in 2016 and began the work of converting a historic dairy property into a modern production brewery.

2017

Matanuska Brewing

Beer starts flowing.

Matanuska Brewing was established in 2017, carrying the Palmer site from grain to milk to beer.

Today

Palmer roots

Still working.

The three-acre campus now supports a production brewery, hometown taproom, broad beverage lineup, barrel-aging program, restaurant, and packaged products that travel beyond Palmer.
